Motorola Droid 4 Review & Video (Verizon)

The Droid 4 is bigger and better than the droid 3. It has front styling like the Razr and in fact it has a lot in common with the razor.

Some of the features of the Droid 4 are:
- 4in Qhd screen with a resolution of 540 x 960 pixels
- A TI OMAP 4430 1.2ghz dual core processor & 1gig of ram
- It has16 gig’s of internal storage (8 of which is partitioned just for the android os) which leaves you with 8 gig’s of user availible storage
- It has Ports for micro usb and hdmi output, a 1.3 megapixel front facing camera
- It has an 8 megapixel camera with flash and 1080p video recording

The back of the droid 4 is removable but not without a special tool which is provided.
To remove the back cover you insert the tool into the hole next to the camera. Push down. Then press down and pull back on the cover.

Inside the phone is the 4g LTE sim card and also a space for up to 32gigs of microsd storage and a 1,785ma non removable battery.

Sliding the screen up reveals droid 4′s best feature. The 5 row QWERTY keyboard. This is by far the best keyboard of the droid line to date. They have even improved on the droid 3 keyboard which I thought was almost perfect. The keys feel more separate and distinct than previous versions. However the space bar is a little offset on the left because of the bigger shift key which means you have to reach a little farther with your thumbs to press it. It’s not a big deal just a little learning curve.

Some cool software features include Smart Actions which allow you at add certain actions to help save battery and turn features on and off depending on your locations. It’s pretty cool if you have a meeting every day at 2pm and you can set it to silent mode or if you are home and want to enable wifi only.

I have had this phone for a week now and put it through the normal tests. I have customized it and loaded many apps and games. It’s handled it all very well.

Pros:

- It’s Very fast and responsive
- It has great call clarity and strong signal which Motorola is know for
- It also has a Great sounding speaker if you are playing music or for speakerphone
- It has an Awesome keyboard

Cons:

- The screen. It ghosts when moving or scrolling. Especially with dark backgrounds. You will see the text blur which is a pain but nothing that I can’t live with. Sure there are better screens on other phones such as the Galaxy nexus by Samsung but there is not a better 4g slider phone out there right now so if you need a slider like I do, the screen is a compromise but I can live with it.

- Non-Removable Battery

Battery life is good for a 4g phone and using smart actions helps. I also rooted the phone and installed titanium backup which lets you disable all the bloatware Verizon installs on this phone. It helps save processing power and keeps these unnecessary apps from running in the background. Plus after the first week the battery life improved a lot which is common with smartphones. I can make it a full day with normal usage and still have battery left when I plug it in at night.

Overall, this is an excellent phone with tons of features and lots of power. While we would have liked to see a better screen it’s still a powerhouse that gets the job done.
